2. You're considering hiring me.
My dis/advantages vs. most other SWEs, I perceive:
- (+) building things that are safe / reliable / principled / well-thought-through
- (+) making tradeoffs in legible/numerate ways
- (+) picking up new tools quickly
- (+) sciencey stuff (math, esp. stats, physical sciences)
- (-) memorizing large bags of tricks for systems I expect won't be relevant to me long-term (e.g. current-gen AI prompting, query optimization for an in-house database)
- (-) making user interfaces normal people would consider beautiful.
I'm currently blessed with the ability to be picky. I'm currently open to:
- computer security work,
- in Seattle,
- at smallish companies (mid-to-high double digits seems to be a sweet spot),
- ideally consulting in a way that provides a steady stream of new problems to dig my teeth into.
